I have a Pentax ES II that sometimes when I wind it, the mirror will rise up as I wind. If I stop winding halfway through a full wind, the mirror will stop halfway up. It seems like it happens almost every other wind when I crank the wind lever. The shutter still works and the mirror will return to the down position after the shutter fires. Then it usually winds without rising, but after the next shutter fire, it will typically rise again with winding. It's like poor man's mirror lock up! Any ideas on what would cause this and how easy it would be to fix? Thanks! |

I believe the down-position latch on your mirror has probably gotten sticky and is not engaging after the shutter fires. (Try slapping the camera after each exposure, before winding on, and see if it improves) A CLA should fix it. |
