Would I be insane to try to fix this lens? The iris is set very small and may be jammed; or possibly the auto-focus is stuck. My Canon 300D gives error code 99 for this lens which could mean anything. I have looked at dismantling the unit but can't get far - the bayonet mount comes off without much trouble, but then I'm stuck and can't get to the drive motors.
Is it brave or pure folly to try to fix this?

Mine also died after 6 months. Canon refused to honor their warranty.
