I've got an old Practina FX that has developed a big problem. It won't wind! The film wind is VERY stuck. should I attempt to take it apart? I'm fairly handy with cameras and it isn't worth much but I like it's breech mount Biogon and it's unusual features. Where do I start? |

I have sketches for at least some aspects of disassembling a Praktina. I don't have any ideas as to what would have caused it to jam, though, so you need to proceed with some caution and look for clues as you go. A screw may have come loose and fallen into the wind or shutter gears, or something like that. You can get a look at the curtains by removing the film gate casting from behind - it's just held on by 5 screws. Of course, the chances of finding the problem there are less than 50-50, but it's a pretty easy place to start. |

Thanks, Rick. It may be a while before I get to this one, I have about 80 cameras in all and most are working (at least now). I keep most anything from a 1929 Roleiflex to a Nikon F-3 and try to keep them happy-happy. Wanted to see how this board works and am very pleased to find good people like you aboard. thanks again, Jim. |

Keeping 80 cameras happy in their old age is not easy. Come back any time, we'll be here.... |
