I have a "new" N4004, used it VERY little and very carefully! Now the small plastic catches that keeps the film door closed have broken, therefore the door will not latch. Since this camera has some age on it, but VERY little useage, will Nikon make the repairs god or what will it cost me to have ot repaired on my own? Thanks in advance for your advise! |

It might be best to ask your local dealer if it can be repaired, even though the N4004 (F401 where I come from) is obsolete it's likely that the parts are available. Barring that cheap N4004s are common on Ebay.

If you do a google search you will find repair kits/services for this. Evidently this was a VERY common problem for the 4004/6006. |

A dumb design if there ever was one. Even if it's fixed it can break again. The 8008s has a better catch. |

the "fix" is a metal latch that is screwed onto the back--not likely to happen again. Welcome to the world of plastics--most camera have the plastic latch piece. At least Nikon has come up with a metal repair. |

On the 6006 I repaired, the previous metal latch repair had also broken. I fixed it with a new screw -- and some epoxy for good measure. |
