I just picked up a Canon F1N camera. When using the built in light meter, sometimes I have to mess with the shutter button to get the light meter needle to jump up.Same thing when I press the battery check button. First question is: Where can I find an online manual? Second: Do any of you have an idea what this could be? My guess is that there are dirty contacts in the shutter button assembly. I've tried 3 different new batteries already so that isn't the problem.

Thank in advance, Ed

I have had this happen on a number of FTb-N. In most, the problem was caused by dirty contacts or the internal corroding of the main feed wire from the battery box. However I have one that has had very little use occasionally showing the problem, even after a full service. We have decided that the galvo must stick on standing, but why is another matter. All the wiring is in perfect condition, as are the contacts. Set battery test a couple of times and the meter springs into action and stays that way, as long as meter is left switched on. Not any use to you I know, sorry.

The only F1 repair manual I have found on line is for the modified first series. www.canonfd.com/choose.htm
Old Timer Cameras can supply a good copy of the F1-N manual for approx £20.00. www.oldtimercameras.com
