The lens focus and operation is normal, the lens maintains good focus from macro to infinity. However the focus ring has slipped (several times)so the corresponding distance is incorrect.(infinity is now at approx 30ft) Is a repair possible
or recommended?

thanks,

Cannot give specifics on your description, but all Angenieux lenses can be repaired. This could be a simple job of locating the focus ring retaining screws, loosening them, resetting ring and re-tightening screws.

If the screws are not tightened, the screws will eventually wear away the surface of the locating groove. Thus you will have a very loose focus ring and lens will not focus.

Some references on Google indicate that this lens is rare - not sure if they mean in production numbers or fitted to the camera mentioned in the references.

I would repair/get repaired before the lens becomes unworkable.
