I'm new but have done an exhaustive search of the site (and the Web) looking for information on the problem of cloth hanging down inside the body of the camera when the shutter opens. This cloth looks like a black nylon loop and hangs down on the left, sticking out from under the open mirror. It leaves a black triangle shaped shadow on pictures taken. Is there an easy way to fix this? |

That happens all the time with the SRTs. What you have to do kind of depends on exactly how it's come unhooked. If you hold the shutter open on B with a locking cable release, then reach in from the front and pull down on the front edge of the mirror, you'll see a flat metal bar behind/below the mirror that moves as the mirror goes up and down. The cloth is supposed to go between the mirror and this bar, it might have just gotten out from under the bar. Farther up on the back of the mirror are a couple of clips that hold the ends of the fabric against the back of the mirror... it might be loose under one of these. There may also be other variations on this theme, it seems to me that I've seen some that were glued. In any case, you just have to kind of figure out where it came from or at least where it could go and be out of your way, and stick it back down. It's not a critical part, just a light baffle. |
