i recieved an old Topcon Unirex SLR camera from my grandfather. the problem with it is that the button you press in order to re-roll the used film is stuck in the depressed position, so i cannot load a new roll of film. can anyone help me? |

To a new guy from an old guy--age 79 this month.
The black rewind button on my Topcon unirex stays depressed to release the film for rewinding until the film wind lever is moved a little when inserting the new roll. If yours does not pop up, that is a clue for what to look for when you take it apart.
When using this camera, do not allow the wind lever to slam back to rest position. If this happens too often it will jam. To cure the problem, remove the bottom plate and look for a loose screw that holds a keystone shaped thing in place. The screw on mine was down inside somewhere until I shook it out. Adjust the keystone to fully cock the shutter and reassemble the screw with a tiny drop of thread lock from the auto store.
I had to exercise the flash V X M lever many times before the flash started working. Unlike most focal plane shutter SLR's of its day, and many still today, it can synch flash up to 1/500 sec which is great for some flash situations.
A wide angle, a couple of telephoto lenses, and a 2x teleconverter were made for this camera.
Mine works, but the unirex body has a reputation for failing and being very hard to repair. |
