Hi,

The winding lever on a Retina IIIc lost its "return"; the spring on the winding shaft was broken. Good fortune prevailed and I found a NOS part. But now that I've replaced the part I need some advise on how to re-tension the spring. Seems like winding it from the top, at the clutch, without the rack installed (replacing the rack after retensioning), is a likely method. The repair parts (winding shaft and rack) were fairly expensive so I don't want to make a big mistake. Anyone know for sure?

I haven't had to take the top off my IIIc yet, but maybe this page: http://homepages.ihug.co.nz/~Srawhiti/retinarack.html would give some help.

Thanks Steve. I was familiar with Chris Sherlock's Retina pages but should have read the one you gave the link to again. It does imply that the winder return requires the shutter to be mounted. My shutter is still out of the camera. Thanks... I'll carefully re-read Chris' material and check it out again.
