I used toothpaste to remove superglue form an glass 1A filter and it left the filter hopelessly scratched with very fine fog like scratches. I used a cosmetics cotton pad. The finest eyeglasses polishing compounds I have seen are 1.1 micron particle size, but are too expensive to buy in the quantities they sell, so I haven't tried them.
I will try the Flitz on the filter, but it sounds like it will not polish the scratches out.

Be careful John, filters are flat pieces of glass (or plastic). Your polishing in one area may turn that section into a very poor lens by creating a concave surface. My advice is to bite the $ bullet and buy a new high quality coated filter.
