Anyone been inside a Chinon CM-4? My eBay treasure won't fire it's shutter, even with new batteries. The meter works, the mirror goes up, but the shutter won't fire. Seems most eBay CM-4s have a similar problem. |

The CM-4 uses an all-mechanical shutter, so there is something wrong in the linkage. I suggest using this body for spares and getting one with a working shutter. You could try taking off the bottom plate and seeing if there is anything grossly wrong with the release linkage, but there may well be a more serious fault. |

Thanks for the response. I'm scanning eBay for a working body. Broken bodies seem very common. I've pulled the bottom and top plates already, but nothing obvious is out of place. I suspect something is wrong with the linkage on the side of the mirror box, but I don't feel like going in there without guidance. |

Could I suggest that if the camera has been dropped the base plate causes the linkage mechanism to jam which triggers the shutter .I repaired a Chinon CM-4 a long time ago and this was the problem if my memory is correct .If you remove the base plate and try by moving the linkages to trigger the shutter and then try some easing out of the linkages and use some light oil this may solve the problem . |
