Just purchased an OM Winder 2 off eBay for around $50. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. The contacts look clean. I've changed out the batteries several times with new ones, etc. Sometimes I have to advance the film manually. The Sequence doesn't work either. It only does one frame at a time. The winder lever is not out, as suggested in some of the documentation. I have made sure the manual winder lever is in, not half cocked out. Should I send this to get overhauled or should I just get another winder off eBay and roll the dice? Overhaul of this winder would be about $60. I would then have a winder that works. Thoughts and opinions? |

I think I might go ahead and have it overhauled, at least you'll know it's good then. I don't have a Winder 2, but the Winder 1 has a little drive clutch in it that can dry out and would be a potential source of trouble if not serviced after this much time (this is NOT a possibility for your problem, just another thing that the overhaul should take care of for you). As you suggest, buying another 25 year old winder on the bay is a crap shoot, you may well still be looking at an overhaul. |

Thanks for the advice. At least I will know that it's in good working order. I hate not knowing wheter its going to work or not. Sometimes, I go and take photogs of stuff I don't want to shoot just to see if its going to work. Stupid! I got the camera overhauled, I might as well overhaul the winder. Love the camera now that its working well. Got some great candid shots of my kids. Thanks for your advice. Gary |
