There is a squeak somewhere in the winding mechanism of an SRT-MC I am restoring. Rather than slather lubricant all over the film wind gears, I am hoping someone here can pinpoint the most likely suspect parts and advise me on how to banish the squeak.

The squeek you hear is more than likely from the shutter bearing surfaces. If you can access the shutter bearings (bronze oilite bushings) and put a drop or three of oil on them, they will quiet down. This procedure requires the removal of the front standard to access the shutter. No need to remove the mirror mech. though. If this is more than you wanted to do, at least look under the battery compartment (2-3 screws) to see the bearings and oil just them tosee if it helps.
If you pull the front standard, tape down the funicular (string) parts of the meter to keep them in place.

Best luck,
Gary

Thanks, Gary. I'll give it a try. I have been pleasantly surprised by how well-made the Minolta SRTs are and how easy it is to restore them.
