In the continuing saga of my Nikon EM, I have discovered that focus in the viewfinder isn't the same as focus on the film. The plane of exact focus is somewhat closer to the camera than it appears in the viewfinder. It is off substantially - when a subject is seemingly in focus at a distance of about eight feet, the plane of focus is really about five feet. I'm tempted to think this is the result of my foam replacement efforts, but I never ran film through the camera previously. It could easily have had this problem when I acquired it. In examining the innards this morning, the only thing I can determine for sure is that the focus screen is resting solidly on whatever is above it (the foam-filled metal frame surrounding the prism chamber, I presume). What else can I check that might cause this problem? Thanks! |
