Must the front cover be completely removed to replace the battery door on the AE1? None of the repair manuals I've seen even mention this oft needed repair. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

If you open the door and use a pair of small needle nose pliers, you can grasp the hinge rod and pull toward the top of the camera about 1/2 way, then slide door off and spring--make note of how the spring is on before removal.
