Hello, I have recently bought an Argus C-4 which looks good cosmetically. It has some free play in the lens (moves slightly back and forth, sort of a wobble). I ran a roll of Ektachrome through it, and the focus and general sharpness is fine. Any suggestions as to the play in the lens? Thanks for any help, Ken Doody |

I think a tiny amount of play is pretty normal there. If the threads were completely tight it would be much harder to turn, and the C-four lensdoesn't have any internal guides or slides or anything. If the focus looks good, I'd not worry about it. Have you cleaned the shutter blades? C-four shutters tend to accumulate oils from the lens grease, and the resulting drag on the shutter blades can cause serious stress on irreplacable parts in the mechanism. Dan Cluley |
