I have just been handed two pentax k1000's and both of them seem to have been converted to a fixed shutter speed between 1/30th and 1/60th on the dial. I cannot move the dial on either camera to adjust shutter speed so I'm assuming they have been locked up via some cunning device.
Any ideas for unlocking them would be greatly appreciated. |

that's weird. can you lift the dials to change the ASA setting or are they glued down? |

Altho it seems strange that both have the same problem, maybe something sweet - soda pop/coffee w/sugar was spilled on them. That will lock things up. Try a bit of lac, thinner around the edge & see if it loosens things up. If it frees up a bit, remove the dial & clean up whatever caused the problem.

If it is a sugar based substance, you might better try denatured alcohol--it will disolve sugar--lacquer thinner likely won't. |

I worked for a repair firm in the UK who made some modifed cameras for the police to use for the mug shots. they were fixed at the flash speed so the police couldn't get it wrong.
