Has anyone out there successfully taken a Canon FX appart? From the outside it looks rather difficult. It has not only the usual dials and levers but a meter, switch and battery compartment as well. All in the top cover. Are there any hidden snags? There must be a number of wires in there to keep an eye on when the camera is assembled again.

The closest I have come is the FTb; that has a similar switch and battery compartment, but not the meter cell, in the top cover.

On the FTb, you want to set the ASA to its lowest setting and the shutter speed to 1/1000 to minimize spring tension on the meter linkage before removing the shutter speed dial, and note which of 4 slots the coupling pin under the dial was engaged in as you remove it. The battery box is no problem, just remove the battery cover before taking the top off. The power switch on the FTb lifts off as part of the top cover.

Hopefully the FX will be at least somewhat similar. The cameras are mechanically similar, but meter design was advancing rapidly at that time so there may be differences there.
