Hello -
I need to replace the focusing screen on my Nikon FG-20. I have ordered the part (Type K) and will be getting it in a week or so.
I have no experience with the inner workings of cameras. Are there any guides online that you could point me to that would help in this repair, or a book I could get?
I've tried to find a repair shop to help me but I don't really have the money, and no one has called me back. The guy I bought the replacement from said "it's easy" to repair. A few others on general-topic message boards have said it's easy.
I'd rather be prepared to do it before I dig in to the camera body.

If the FG20 is built the same as the EM, as I think it is, you're in luck. Remove the lens, and just above the front of the screen you'll see a single screw right in the middle. Remove this screw and the frame holding the screen comes out the front.
Unlike some other (even easier) cameras, this frame is not hinged at the rear - you'll have a lower frame, an upper frame and the screen, all loose parts. Carefully replace the old screen with the new one (make sure it's the same side up!), and carefully put the whole thing back in - then repalace the screw. The whole job should take about 5 minutes.
I have a sketch I can email to you if this is not clear enough....

I will get the part shortly and attempt this "easy" surgery. If I end up with 17 pieces of camera, I will ask about the sketch
