I'm having a slight problem with my Olympus 35RD. I've got down to the front lens element, it's quite tightly fitted, however that is not my main problem. The problem is that the splined shaft that controls shutter speed is positioned so that I cannot fit my lens spanner into the slot. It's very annoying. Does anyone have any ideas? Would it perhaps be easier to go in from the back? (I have a stuck shutter problem, of course.)

You can't remove the rear lens element(s) without removing the front assembly with the lens first - the rear lens elements do not fit through the film window.

I use a misbent old pair of tweezers to get to the retainer rings on cameras like the 35RD and the Canonet QL17-GIII. The cheap pliers sold in sets of three or four are made of rather soft steel which is not very 'springy' and therefore the tips can be bend in any direction. I bent them such that the tweezers open wider and that the tips are parallel with each other.

So I will have to remove the top and bottom covers and remove the entire lens assembly? SIGH, I'm really annoyed about my luck recently, two oly Rds, this one had the splined shaft in a position that made it impossible to remove the element, and the othe had a threaded screw!

I better get some better luck soon...
