Anyone ever detail-stripped and successfully reassembled a 50 f2 collapsible Zeiss Sonnar in Contax rangefinder mount? I have one with a good bit of what looks like oil fog inside it. The iris works very smoothly; just want to get in there and steam-clean the glass.
I have a strong light, a work surface relatively free of crumbs, a fine selection of ball-peen hammers, and forty gallons of fresh-brewed hydrofluoric acid. Should I attempt this? |

just hold the chisel by the pointed end and rap sharply with the handle on the center of the front element

Mr Oleson, your sketches were spot-on. Worked like a charm. Just a warning to anyone else who tries it, though- beware the VERY thin shims between the barrel backseat and the inside of the mount. One of them was pure copper, maybe a thou' in thickness. VERY fragile. Breath would bend it. I have a hunch they're critical to the focal length, so be careful when handling them.
Aside from that, it was easy. I hardly needed the gas-axe. Thing just came apart after forty or fifty hard blows with a maul. |
