Hi all,
I'm trying to remove the front element on my Industar 26M Lens in order to remove a couple pieces of dirt (look like metal chips). When I loosen the ring retaining the element , it unthreads only so far before getting really tight and stopping. The element is rattling at this point, but I cannot complete the removal of this ring. It seems the outer ring must be removed first. If so, how is this done? I have tried the rubber hose trick, but it won't budge. The outer ring has no spanner slots.

This might not be correct because I do not have a 26M,but from pictures looks similar construction to Jupiter.So have a look at this method;
Unscrew the rear group housing.You then have to find the grub screw that locks the front group housing in place.This could be hidden under the focus scale,you just have to keep trying the visible grub screws.Loosen screw and then unscrew the complete front unit,complete with aperture setting ring.Watch for shim rings.Remove aperture setting ring,then remove grub screws that hold the alloy front ring,unscrew front ring.The element retaining ring is now removable.
As I only work with the Jupiters and collapsible lenses,the above might not work for the 26M.However as stated from pics I have just studied,your lens looks very similar.Somebody will soon correct me if this is wrong. |

Hi Glenn,
Thanks for the help. I got the lens apart and sucessfully cleaned it. It took awhile to get it back together as I forgot to make note of the helical. Lots of trial and error and focus checking! Here's a pic of the finished lens and camera.

I only play around with FED 1/Zorki 1,but have always thought that the FED 2 looked right and was best of the lot.Your picture confirms that.

Hi Glenn,
The Fed 2d is probably my favorite of the Russian 35mm RF cameras. It is a very high quality camera, and is well balanced - a great shooter. The coarse vulcanite is awesome - has the best grip of ANY camera imo. And they look sweet too! I'm amazed that nice ones are steadily available for less than $50 with lens and leather case - that includes shipping! My only issues are the somewhat limited shutter speeds (25-500+B) and the accessory shoe is too low for my 35mm finder to clear the camera top (Russian finder..go figure). My next project is to shim the shoe up somehow. Another project ! :-) Anyway, thanks again,
