A colleague of mine has a Pentax me SLR with a jammed shutter. She believes that it is something to do with the way she loaded a new film. Can anyone advise how this may be released or will it need a professional repair - if the latter is it worth it or could it be too expensive.

It wouldn't hurt to get an estimate on repairs if you arn't up to doing the repairs yourself. I have a Pentax ME F with a jammed shutter (fixed that) but now the shutter "auto releases" - I was told that this would be about $120 - $150 to repair. YOu should go to the link (on this page) to "Camera Articles" and read the article entitled "Pentax ME Super ramblings" by Henry Taber. It isn't the exact same model as the one you have, but I think the troubleshooting is pretty much the same for all three models (ME, ME F, and ME super).
