I dropped my Nikon and cracked the UV filter. I tried to replace it and because the rim of the filter is bent, the filter is stuck.
Any ideas on how to remove the filter without damaging the lens?

See if you can carefully grip the bent edge of the filter rim with needle nose pliers and bend it back, which may relieve pressure on the threads and allow you to get it unscrewed. Since the filter is wasted anyway, you may have to cut small notches on opposite sides of the filter rim, like at 9 and 3 o'clock (as though looking at a clock face) and try to get it off like you would with a spanner wrench or something similar. Some people use a wide putty knife to get a grip on the notches.

Remove carefully all pieces of glass. Bend the filter rim towards the center at one place. Further bulging it inwards will decrease the diameter of the filter rim and you can lift it off the lens.

Take care if the damaged filter is of the type that has the glass held in place by a large metal circlip.Do all your bending of rim at location of gap in circlip, this will allow the circlip to easily deform with the metal rim.Do your bending at any other location and the alloy rim can tear before the circlip deforms. This can lead to the pliers doing a little jig on the front element.Having seen the result,I can assure you it is not a pretty sight!
