Hello I've got a beautiful Praktica FX3 with major shutter curtain drag on speeds above 1/100. The camera has a horizontal shutter curtain. Can I correct this myself ? |

Note that quality lubricant was lacking in East germany at production time. Sometimes it is enough to "stir" the fat by running the camera mechanism at a shutter speed that works for several times ("several" means "many, many" - tip from a repair mechanic form Leipzig). |

Hi Gene- On the FX3 it's quick and easy to get access to the shutter. Just remove the six screws holding the film guide plate on. Remove it and the film cassette retainer (now loose) and it's exposed. You can remove any old film chips, insects, etc. You can also clean and re-lubricate the shutter's spindle ends while you are in there. That should solve the problem. If not, more disassemmbly will be required- not difficult except you will need a special tool to remove the bottom part of the film speed selector. Good luck! Mike |
