Hello all, I have a Shanghai Seagull TLR (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00009UU3E/002-9322751-6803226?v=glance&vi=manual-submit) that I bought in China for under ten dollars. I believe that most everything works, except the shutter is incredibly oily. It fired maybe a dozen times before finally sticking. I'm a complete amateur, and I bought it thinking it would just be fun to take apart even if I had no clue how to get/keep it working. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone here could give me any information on disassembly- either getting to the shutter or being able to remove it from the camera. My plan is either to apply some alcohol and let it set a couple of times, or soak the shutter if its possible to remove it. Can anyone help? Apologies if I've described anything poorly or said something ignorant- again, I can't say I have any knowledge to draw from here. Thanks, cameron |

hi cameron: i have never worked on a seagull, but as i recall it has a leaf shutter exposed and easily accessible on the front. you may find some useful tips at these pages, though you will have to improvise some details: http://rick_oleson.tripod.com/index-158.html http://rick_oleson.tripod.com/index-55.html http://rick_oleson.tripod.com/leaf_shutter_cla.htm please feel free to come back to the forum or email me if you have any questions. rick : ) = |

Hi! Cameron, Just simply follow the instruction above. But it will be much easier as Seagull TLR is not as complicated. I got the same problem with my Seagull and I have cleaned that sticking shutter twice. No problem and the camera works fine now. silverliner |
