When I press the shutter button I hear a clear 'click' (sound allright). The shutter doesn't open however. Also in the B-setting the shutter remains closed. The light meter is working fine.
Does anybody know what the problem can be?

The problem can be sticky shutter blades, they can be cleaned with lighter fluid or a similar cleaning fluid. As this camera has a two blade shutter which is combined with the aperture (even in flash mode it follows a built-in "automatic" function) and is accessible from the rear (there is no glass in the way) you can carefully clean the blades from behind and tick the left (rearmost) blade with a wooden toothpick to find out whether it can be moved. In some cases this frees a frozen shutter for a while, in more severe cases however the cleaning procedure is a bit more demanding, but it is not too difficult even if you had to knock down the whole camera. There are various clues how to do it in this forum's "keyword search" section, good luck!

The shutter is cocked via a cocking slider located under the bottom plate. Sometimes the detent which links the shutter mechanism to this slider does not work correctly, and then you just hear a faint click, actually from the double-wind prevention latch but not from the shutter.

In these cases, you will have to remove the lens plate with the lens assembly. The shutter parts are mounted on another board which has to be lifted, too. The detent in question is located at the bottom of the shutter mechanism. It is some kind of arm or lever, with a tip which usually is held by a hairspring. Sometimes this hairspring moves out of place, leaving a non-functional shutter mechanism.

The C35 shutter may also suffer from sticky shutter blades. You can set the shutter to B and gently try to move the blades with a toothpick from behind as you press the shutter. If they suddenly open when they are pushed they probably need cleaning.
