Hi, Niki W., #1: I once had one with a defective meter, as the galvanometer inside had packed up foor good. A repair was not possible and nowadays spare parts mainly come from junk cameras. But there are some more causes for defects than this, namely the wiring (e.g. from the battery case to the test switch, this switch itself) and the LDR (AKA CdS cell or Electric Eye). Unfortunately inspecting these requires taking the camera apart. There is another switch inside the camera operated by the speed dial (no metering when set to "B"). #2: The resetting arm of the film counter is often blocked by some black goo from the disintegrating light baffles around the camera's film door. The reason for a complete failure of the counter may be a misbent or unhooked spring. Before you start working look around in this forum (try "Keyword Search" first) and take my advice, try to get some more info from the internet. Pocketable Ricoh compact cameras like the G500 and the 500GX were among my first tinkering objects a good while ago, I then considered them difficult, but now I know that there are far more complicated cameras, this is to say everybody can do if they try, I wish you good luck with your project. |
