While repairing a M42 tele lens, I noticed that the aperture/distance diagram on the lens was a thin piece of metal glued around an aluminium black painted barrel. And I need to glue it back to the barrel. Do you have any suggestions on what would be the best glue for this. There will be some movement of the lens barrel parts against the diagram, so it'll need to be a glue that holds well sideways.
I agree with Rick. There are usually some set-screws beneath those removeable scales and there may come a time when you need to remove the scale for service work. Contact adhesive is the way to go because it can be softened by applying heat per a domestic iron - or perhaps trickling a drop of turpentine. If you use SuperGlue (cyanacrolate) or Araldite - you may never be able to remove that scale without destroying it.
