Hi Im looking for some helpful advice on what I can do to try and repair my old canonflex. The shutter speeds are inconsistant and when set to a one second exposure the camera usually does not complete the cycle leaving the shutter wide open and the mirror up. I have played with a small set screw (cam like) under the top right cover which has stopped the long exposure from locking up, it now completes the cycle but 4 out of 5 shots the mirror stays up. Also the shutter speed is not consistant, sometimes its a one second exposure, sometimes a much shorter time.

All the bearings in the exposure train need cleaning of the old congealed oxidized oil and dirt, and then correct relubrication. I don't know the insides of this camera at all, how much cleaning you can do without major disassembly. Lighter fluid (naptha) is an effective (if very flammable) cleaner for this purpose.

You might want to look at Tomosy's camera repair books. If you care about this Canonflex, find a really cheap SLR to practice on first.

Thx John, thats kinda what I suspected may be going on as well, The camera was my dads and he used it alot and enjoyed it. I have never used it, and thought with a bit of cleaning purhaps it could handle a few more rolls through it.
