A friend gave me an A1, the shutter seems to fire correctly, everything seems to be in working order except the light meter. The light meter does not light up at all. When you look through the viewfinder, you do not see a needle or a light. Can anyone tell me how to fix this or if I can use the camera without the light meter? |

There is no needles and pins in A-1 viewfinder. There is LED display in it, like in the modern cameras. May be this display just turned off? See http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/companies/canon/fdresources/SLRs/a1/manual/htm/shutter1.html#Cancelling |
