Help! I ran a roll of film through my recently acquired Kiev 35, and all went well until I decided to rewind the film. Couldn't get it to budge. I depressed the button on the base of the camera but nothing happens. I had to take the back off in my darkroom [closet], remove the back and try to remove it that way - that didn't work either. Finally did manage to get it out, in pieces. Are there other secret buttons, plungers or levers that need to be activated before the winding gear sprockets will reverse and let loose of the film? Thought you might have had an answer by now. If you have found a rewind button on the base of your model Kiev 35, then there are no other 'magic' levers/actions to instigate rewind - the rewind function wants cleaning and setting up properly.

On certain 'marks' (forget which) you have to rotate the base release catch to align with a red dot. This/these models do not have a button in the base.

Simple test. If you find the sprocket shaft rotates freely when the button is pressed, then the tension in the take-up spool is too great. The film will not cause the spool to rotate as it is rewound. I do not think the spool shaft is fitted with a clutch mechanism, just a simple tension mechanism. However I stand to be corrected, by those more knowledgeable in the workings of this family of Kiev cameras.
