Hi,

I love these vivtar 285 for location shoots. I use them regularly. I use to have 4 vivtar 285 but after about 5 years, 3 of them only fire half the time. Every 10 time I fire the flash, only maybe 5 time they will flash. What is the problem? How can I fix it, or is there anywhere I can send to get them fix cheap. The vivtar people told me that they will charge $70 to fix each flash, that's almost what they sell for new.

Find yourself a small independent repair shop and get an estimate. Remember small companies have lower overheads.
