Hi, at the moment I am disassembling the lens of my 7SII because the aperture blades are stuck. But now I'm hanging at this point: http://www.abload.de/image.php?img=himatic7s24t6.jpg Does anybody know how to get this black ring around the first lens off? I already tried it with my fingernails and even with a knife but it won't move. |

Hi Carsten, you will have to remove the front lens group by inserting a suitable tool into the two notches on the black ring, the second last picture of this sequence of photos shows you what it will then look like (by using Google's langauage tool you can "translate" the Japanese text into English), here's the link: http://kochi-med.net/moto/camera/camera_repair/7s2/index.htm Make sure you do NOT use too much lighter fluid at a time, work slowly and without too much pressure on the blades. Sometimes it is necessary, however, too clean them also from their backside, this would require going deeper into the camera, including removal of the rear lens group. When you do this for the first time ever, it seems difficult, but it is in fact one of the easier operations with semi-automatic RF cameras. The only critical point is the light meter, if you damage it the camera will not be functional any longer, as it is the needle-catch mechanism that determines the right aperture (time priority programmed shutter), W. |

I managed to get the front lens and the chrome ring off. Now it looks like it's a mechanical problem. I made some pictures to show it. The aperture should be 1.7. Shutter release not pressed: http://www.abload.de/img/npljms.jpg Shutter release half pressed: http://www.abload.de/img/hpszmz.jpg Shutter release full pressed: http://www.abload.de/img/fp99u3.jpg So the aperture blades open a bit and then close close again when the shutter is open. |

Hi, IMHO sticky blades are what you call a "mechanical problem". Even if they look clean they may be partly covered with a fine layer of grime preventing their proper functioning. But there may be other reasons for your problem. Unlike its so-called clones (Konica S3, the Vivitar 35ES, the Revue 400SE) one of the exclusive features of this camera is that it can be used in manual mode with metering off however. If for some reason or other the meter needle when off does not return to zero, the aperture will still be influenced by the needle's actual position. |
