Start with making sure the battery compartment contacts are clean. Then remove the top and check voltage at the meter terminals. If meter connections are OK, you have a broken meter, which is a bear to replace. In that case, use an external meter or buy another OM1 on eBay. They are often available for under $100. |

Sounds like no power, only the cord and pulley moving the meter at the end. Look in the battery box, see if the terminal seems loose. Early OM1's used a plastic screw to hold this in, and the screw tended to break when it got old. Later ones had a metal screw, with an insulating collar on it.
If that's not it, next stop is the wire to the terminal: good chance that it has corroded and broken off at the solder joint. If so, you'll have to cut it back and replace about 2 inches of it to get to good copper. |

Rick, wasn't there also a gooey foam problem with OM1s on top of the prism that caused meter problems as well? |

I don't recall meter problems from that ... it did damage the silvering on some of the prisms. if that got severe enough it might slightly affect readings. Something could also get up there and make the needle sticky, but in this case it's moving at the end of the travel range so it doesn't sound like it's stuck. |
