I recently acquired a Canon EX Auto that had been lying aroung for sometime which still had in it the original HD mercury cell which had leaked somewhat. I have cleaned up the corrosion the leak had caused and bought a 625 battery to see if the electrics now work. How do I operate the battery test facility in the camera , always supposing there is one, as I think this is the best way to find out? Peter. |

Hi Peter. The manual says to set the ASA at 100, set the shutter speed at 1/30th, turn the aperture control ring to EE and aim the camera at the sky or other bright subject. If the needle swings up to or over the "16" index the battery is OK. Good luck |

Thanks. Unfortunately nothing is happening. I don`t think the battery is flat because I bought it the other day but I`ll have to confirm it has power in it before asking any more questions however in the meantime if you can think of anything else I can do please tell me. Peter. |

Hi Peter. You might try cleaning the contact in the battery compartment with something slightly abrasive, just to make sure that you are getting a good contact. It is sprung and should protrude about 1/16th or so into the compartment. Push it in a couple of times to make sure it is not stuck. These cameras are capable of excellent results. |

Thanks. I`ve tried doing that but the meter still doesn`t want to play. It is such a pity as the rest of the camera is in very good condition. Peter. |
