I have got a rokkor 55mm 1.7 lens with some internal fungus (looks like fine spiders webs). I have got down to the lens core but i am struggling to get inside, i dont have a lens wrench.
Does anyone have any tips?

This lens is easy, you go in from the front, there is some (dis-)assembly advice here: http://sa-ss.hp.infoseek.co.jp/Photo/mc55.htm
BUT one has to be extremely careful not to harm the internal coating of the lenses, just looking at them causes scratches, W. |

Those photos are very usefull! Just a shame i cant read chinese, but the photos provide the info.
Regarding the soft coatings, do you have any suggestions for removing the fungus (this type looks like spiders webs) without harming the coatings?

I would as carefully as possible wipe off the fingus traces with cotton swabs (there are alsop microfiber swabs on the market, I have not tried them yet) and vinegar, but before you start, take a look at this:

well it looks like i have had sucess!
the fungus is gone, the coating is still in place and i dont think i have scratched anything.
one further thought, what sort of lubricant shall i put on the focus screw?

Hi, Kitedan, I have never found it necessary to regrease Rokkors' helicoils. My small supply of (probably silicone?) grease is from a former repair shop and of unknown origin. It gives lenses a somewhat stiff focusing, which I prefer. I have heard of people using grease for water or gas taps (usually white, temperature range from -40 to more than +150 gegrees Centigrade).
