My XD7 winds on but the lever doesn`t return automatically and I think that the spring that should help it do this is either broken or one end has become unseated. How do I get the lever off to see if I can fix it? Peter. |

Using a piece of rubber (a stopper for example) unscrew the chrome cap over the lever. Underneath is a notched brass screw. The spring is underneath the lever which can now be lifted off. |

Thank you for the information. I am having difficulty getting the chrome cap to unscrew. I am trying to move it counter-clockwise but thought it best to confirm that this is the correct way before going any further. Peter. |

Yes counter clockwise is the way to go. It may be very tight. These cameras are a few years old and there can be a bit of dissimilar metal corrosion to tighten this up. If you are having difficulty getting a good "bite" with the rubber you might try cleaning both the rubber and the cap with Ronsonol lighter fluid (benzine). |

Hi Peter: Yes those jar grippers work good, I also made a hard wood pliers out of a piece of wood I drilled a hole in it the size of the cap and lined it with double back...Don |

Thank you to everybody. I put some Ronsonol on the top plate around the lever and it has freed up whatever it was that was stopping it springing back, congealed grease?, but if it malfunctions again I`ll take the knob off and give it a good clean. Peter |
