Hello everyone,

I have a simple question. I want to disassemble my Retina 1a compur rapid shutter to do a flood cleaning. In other words, I wish to remove the lens elements so I can soak the shutter assembly (I'll deal with possible grease on the blades later).

My question is: how do I remove the front lens element? I see no retaining ring. Do I just unscrew this? If so, is it right hand or left hand? I would rather ask this group before trying to unscrew something that isn't supposed to be unscrewed. I'm having no problem removing the rear lens element, just the front.

Thanks very much for everyone's help (this is not my first question here).

Hi Jeff:

It ought to just unscrew, counterclockwise. I'm afraid I don't have one available to check.

Thanks Rick,

I am planning to use some inner tube rubber and a block with an oversize hole to grasp the knurled ring shown in the photo below.

Does this seem like a good idea?

Hi Jeff,
My three early Retina I models look the same as your picture.

Yes, on mine the front element will unscrew (normal right hand thread, unscrew counter-clockwise) when you turn the knurled part of the front ring.

Peter
