One I've had lurking for a while... I'd given up on a sticky shutter, but Pablo gave me the impetus to fix and it currently has a film in it.

The question is, can anyone tell me anything about it? It's a box camera with a nice brass plate on the front with the name on - there's currently one on Evilbay, item number 190123326536. It's all metal, two Waterhouse stops, and an odd little sprung flap on the side of the front panel covering a semi-circular slot. No idea what that is for!

Googling it from work is a dangerous move, owing to the existence of a popular amateur gynaecology magazine called Mayfair, and they don't seem to be very common.

anyone any ideas?

have a look at this page, I think you got an answer to all your questions. http://www.collection-appareils.com/houghton/html/mayfair.php
Your camera is precisely a Houghton all distance ensign box.

Well well well... What a shame I'm missing that accessory lens, then!

Thanks Pablo!

I just bought evilbay item number 190123326536.

I do not think it has the accesory. In that case, I'll try to make a copy of it.

Looks like I'll have to finish the film I started months ago, so you can see whether the camera is any good or not!

As it is a roll of ASA 50, it's Wimbledon fortnight, and we are currently having the wettest June for decades, this may take some time... watch this space.
