I have dug out my father's old Weston Master ll (Latin two) universal exposure meter (Model S141/735) and although it must be over 40 years old it still basically works but the needle is sticking in the left-hand side of the scale and I have to jolt it to free it. It does not appear to be touching the glass, so that isn't the problem. Adjusting the zero calibration screw makes no difference. I can't see a way into this thing so does anyone know how to get in to the "works" to find out what's wrong. Second question:- How do the "Weston Film Speed Values" relate to ASA film speeds. (I have the manual and the film speed values booklet but I just can't work it out.) ASA is barely mentioned in them (nor DIN). Many thanks for any advice, John. |

As I remember, the Weston number is 80% of the ASA number - for 100 on th film box st 80 on the Weston. |

Film Speed Values ASA Weston 100 = 80 200 = 160 400 = 320 You must remove the label on the back (2 screws) this exposes 2 larger screws inside. Most of these old meters have sticky needles and need a tap. Don't mess with the hair spring assembly its very delicate. Alf |

I have found out that the original manufacturers are still in business albeit with a different name. The meter is going off for a professional service/repair at roughly 10 times what it cost to buy initially ! |
