the shutter doesn't release. at first I thought that the mirror was stuck, but when you open the back and manually push the shutter over to the left the mirror pops down and when you hit the shutter release button it makes a clicking sound like the shutter opened, but it doesn't. and the mirror goes up and gets stuck as well as the rewind lever gets stuck until you push the shutter back over to make the mirror pop down. If anyone knows how to fix this it would be amaizing! thanks in advance. |

I know how to fix it and it's not that amazing. There were several models of the XG-1 and yours could be as much as 25 years old. The camera is not completing the release cycle due to aged lubricants, film chips in the mechanism, etc. It is certainly repairable but in this model (all) the shutter is attached to the mirror box and it requires major disassembly to get it all out in the open for cleaning. If you want to try this, you can get further help here, but you will have to get the proper tools and repair manual, and be willing to commit many patient hours to the project, bearing in mind that the camera in it's current condition is worth 3 to 5 dollars and if successfully repaired might be worth 25 to 40 dollars. |
