Hi Folks:

I have two Minolta 3xi bodies with problems I believe to be from a similar root cause.

One body now has a dark viewfinder - it seems to be stopped all the way down.

The other when turned on displays help in the LCD screen. This will stay on until the battery is removed.

Neither will take photos.

Is there a reasonably simple fix to either problem? I do have a service manual for the camera.

Dave

Hi Folks:

The above message should have read - "I do not have a service manual for the camera".

I understand most often it is caused by an aperture base plate problem, but the "help" you describe can be caused by that and/or several other problems (such as motor problems). What I would love to know, is what actually goes wrong wih the base plate - does it actually need replacement, or is there a repair which can be done to the base plate, i.e. replacement of a rivet, etc...

The major symptom of the aperture base plate problem if I understand correctly is a darkened viewfinder caused by the stopped down aperture. Am I correct?

Dave
