Picked up a dirt cheap 35EL. The good: Battery test works after replacing with stacked CR 1/3Ns. The bad: Nothing else works! Shutter doesn't fire. Can't advance the film. After opening and closing back film counter does not reset. I'm hoping that there's something basic causing all these problems... ideas? |

I am assuming that you are trying the camera with the front cover open... ;-) The two issues are probably related. The 35EL has a small solenoid which governs the shutter. It is a common problem on this camera - it will prevent the camera from firing if it is faulty. The counter will only return to zero after you opened the back AND fired the shutter. Since the shutter will not release, the counter will not reset. I am afraid that is the extent of my knowledge as to possible cause and cannot guide you as to how to fix it. I don't know how cheap was "dirt cheap" - they are dirt cheap on eBay, how about buying another one if the Minox 35 is what you are after? Try looking for a 35GL or even better, a 35ML. both less prone to this problem. Best, Jan |

What, the front opens!?! ;-) I like fiddling with broken stuff, so will give it a go even though I can probably find another one for very little money. Just hoping to find some advice on how to get the thing apart the proper way... thanks for the tip on the solenoid, I saw that mentioned on photo.net too so it's probably a likely culprit. |
