Hi, has anyone tried to open the front lens element from an agfa billy record (apotar lens)? I can see a litle bit fungus between the two lenses, but i don't know if there is a trick to unscrew it. Bye Wolfgang |

An Apotar is a three-element lens, and such lenses are focused by turing the front lens. So getting the front element off is quite easy. First loosen the set-screws in the aluminum focus ring, and remove it. Then you can unscrew the front element. The other two elements are mounted in a brass collar that seats in the shuter housing. There is a threaded brass ring that holds the middle element on the rear element. Tip: find a way to make sure you get the middle element back in correctly. These are concave on both sides, and each side looks the same to me. A few times I have gotten them back in up-side-down, and then the camera will not focus. |
