i,ve got my eye on super d that does,nt have lens but comes with both 2x and 3x telecouplers. camera self timer runs down most of way but won,t fire shutter since it probably has to have battery power to do so. for 30.00 i think it,s good gamble . battery contact has very little corosion on it. internal battery compartment has some oxidation that needs cleaning up. front covering is coming up at top by lens mount on rewind side. top has slight dent in rear on left by rewind knob. other than that camera,s in pretty good condition for it,s age. what,s your opinion and what would i expect to have to pay for decent lens for one thanks. well i did my own research last night. super d uses wein cell which i have 2 of. i downloaded user,s manual found out what preview switch was. i read thru repair manual on super d on this site. so i,m going take battery and put in camera and if metering system works i,ll take chance on repairing rest. does,nt appear that it needs battery to fire shutter or am i wrong. i,m going find out. The Topcon RE Super (Super D in the USA) is a mechanical camera; the battery powers the meter only. Your camera is blocked and it needs a CLA. On the other hand for somebody who knows how to fix it 30 dollars is a very good price. As for the meter I still have to see an RE super with a dead meter. A 50mm 1.8 lens should cost on eBay anywhere from 20 to 60 dollars. A 50mm 1.4 goes from about 60 to 100 dollars. The difference in price does not mean that the faster lens is any better than its brother; it's only that people are obsessed with fast lenses. Using a teleconverter with Topcon glass is akin to attaching a trailer to a race car. Just take the glass out and use them as extension rings. |

675 zinc-air hearing aid cells, with an o-ring and a spacer washer will work fine in a Super D or RE Super. The 35/2.8, 58/1.8, and 100/2.8 lenses are all first-rate, and very cheap on eBay. Or for a little more at KEH, B&H, or Adorama. |
