Hello. I have an Olympus OM-1 MD and the film door is jammed, and will not open. Does anyone know of any non-invasive ways to remedy this, or at least a way to get the door open so I can work on the mechanism?

Thanks.

The only thing that I can think of that could make the door jam solid is if the latch is bent so that pulling the rewind knob all the way up does not release it. Another possibility is that it is not jammed, but just stuck on the light seal foam that has deteriorated and turned to glue all around the edges.

I would try the latter first: while holding the rewind knob firmly up, try pulling the door open. This is not easy to do on an OM1, as there are no overhanging edges on the back to get a grip on.

If this fails, peel back a bit of the leather just forward of the door seam at the left end. Under this you will find 2 screws. If you remove these 2 screws the latch mechanism will fall apart.

If the latch is bent, the problem will most likely be located up at the top, under the top cover, so you'll have to remove that to fix it.
