Hullo, my beloved Praktica BX20 seems to have developed a sticky shutter? It cocks perfectly well and fires when the button is depressed, but intermittently (now more often than not) it doesn't actually open, even on B it just goes clunk ready to be wound on again. Is this just going to be in need of a clean/service or something more dramatic?
Many thanks.

Hi!
I believe you are in trouble. Apart from the near unavailability of spares for the electronic Prakticas, in my experience, repair shops do not want to know them. For your sake, I hope someone on the Forum proves me wrong.

For what it's worth, try to swab the shutter leaves and as much as you can reach with rubbing alcohol and a model paint brush. Let it dry for a couple of days. Then exercise it again. I suggested that to a friend who's Canon shutters were stuck. It worked and he's still happy.

The camera may not be fully winding each time.

Remove the bottom cover and observe the winding sequence. The screws holding the bottom plate may be loose allowing it to move around and out of place.
