I picked up a Gossen N100 as part of a camera deal on e-bay. Googeling it I came accross an unrelated factoid relating to batteries in the archives here.
recepticles on batteries do not 'take' ordinary solder (like an OM1)
This I have found out to be true. Any one know why? |

Not sure what you mean by 'receptacles'. However the solder problem is normally due to the plating used on the batteries/contacts. |

Sometimes the tabs are made from stainless steel or like Glenn says plated, the wires are not soldered but welded to the tabs. Sometimes removing the plating solves the problem. Brazing the wire to the tabs could work in theory, but the parts being so small they tend to just burn. |

When I repaired cameras we had some kind of special flux for soldering stainless contacts. The flux was very corrosive so you had to clean everything with alcohol after you were done soldering. Sorry, can't remember the name of the stuff. |

Conductive epoxy instead of solder may be a solution. Obtainable in small quantities in rear window defroster repair kits in auto supply stores. |

I don't recall having much difficulty with it. If the contact or wire is corroded it won't take solder, but I've resoldered them when they're clean. I'm sure different makers used different materials, and I may have just been lucky. |
