yup. Pentax K mount- the lenses take quite a bit of torque to go on and off of the camera (unlike Canon's FD) and with all those moving rings on the lens and no gripping space, it bugs me. so I took out a little copper ring under the lens mount- now the lenses are easy on, easy off. the lens rotates a bit when you press the lens release. good customization or bad call? will I run into some unforeseen problems (yah...)? or is the only problem that tiny bit of play between the lens and the body...? comments? |

Yes it's there for a reason. It keeps the lens snug against the mount and keeps the proper distance between the lens and film plane. Allows the diaphragm lever to operate and control info to transfer properly. If your lenses are too tight, a very small amount of grease would be ok on the spring. |

You might also be able to flatten the arches of the spring slightly to reduce the grip, without completely removing it. However, removing it is unlikely to do a lot of harm. I don't think the Exakta bayonet has any springs in it... your lens will not be as perfectly registered as it was before, but it will probably not be noticeable in your pictures. |

At least the Topcon version of the Exakta mount definitely has a spring. But, since the throat diameter of the mount is so small, you get a lot of leverage over it. On the K mount, the throat is large, low leverage. |
